The Solution Architect will provide technical and architectural expertise to support the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General (VA OIG) Enterprise Architecture (EA) Modernization initiative. This role will be responsible for designing, evaluating, and guiding the implementation of secure, scalable, and sustainable technology solutions that align with the Department of Veterans Affairs modernization strategy and enterprise architecture framework. The Solution Architect will work closely with business stakeholders and technical teams to translate requirements into solutions that support mission objectives, governance, and compliance standards.
This is a TEMPORARY (6 months) full-time position in the Washington, DC area and onsite work will be necessary.
Position Responsibilities:
Support the solution architect design for modernization efforts, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture principles, frameworks, and governance. Assist in the development of target-state architecture, reference models, and roadmaps for applications, data, integration, and infrastructure domains. Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to understand functional and non-functional requirements, translating them into technical solutions. Evaluate current-state systems, identify modernization opportunities, and propose innovative solutions. Provide technical guidance and support during solution development, integration, and deployment. Ensure solutions comply with federal cybersecurity, data protection, and accessibility requirements. Support development of program deliverables and artifacts, including architecture diagrams, design documents, and standards. Participate in architecture reviews and solution assessments to support decision-making. Collaborate with the Security Governance Lead to integrate risk management and security controls into solution design. Requirements
Proven experience designing and implementing solutions across application, data, integration, and infrastructure domains. Strong knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF, DoDAR, or similar). Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across business and technical teams. Experience preparing architecture deliverables, including compliance with requirements, preferably for VA or other federal programs. Experience with cloud architecture, hybrid IT environments, and modernization of legacy systems, desired. Knowledge of data governance, integration platforms, and enterprise security design, desired. Experience working with federal agencies, preferably VA, OIG, or oversight organizations, a plus. Ability to obtain and maintain public trust clearance. Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field. Minimum of 3 years' experience in solution architecture, enterprise architecture, including federal IT modernization programs. Professional certifications such as TOGAF, AWS/Azure Solutions Architect, or equivalent, a plus.
