Overview
Join to apply for the Human Resources Specialist role at Butler Machinery. This position supports HR and Benefits teams across North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Montana. The role focuses on administering employee benefits and retirement programs, managing day-to-day updates to the HRIS, assisting with HR projects, and coordinating all aspects of the new hire process—from pre-employment through the first day. This is an exempt position with a retirement plan offering 10% guaranteed employer contribution and up to 5% discretionary employer contribution annually once eligibility is met.

Responsibilities
- Coordinate and facilitate pre-employment processes including collecting required acknowledgments, completing background checks, scheduling drug screens, and ensuring onboarding compliance items are completed accurately and on time.
- Assist in various HR projects and audits.
- Organize and conduct new hire orientations on a weekly basis.
- Update employee benefits in the HRIS for life event changes and coordinate with payroll on proper deductions.
- Administer random drug screens.
- Oversee milestone award processes.
- Create, run, and analyze reports from the HRIS.
- Assist Benefits Manager with Benefits and Open Enrollment meetings and update benefits content and materials as needed.
- Support backend termination processes by updating HRIS, preparing separation of benefits letters, coding termination reasons, and ensuring offboarding items are completed.
- Coordinate United Way Campaign and participate in employee engagement committee meetings and events.
- Perform administrative HR tasks such as filing, scanning, processing invoices, and completing employment verifications.
- Update performance management system to reflect HRIS changes and initiate applicable performance review cycles.
- Assist HR Business Partners with recruitment as needed.
- Work within and promote the vision, mission, and values of Butler Machinery (BMC).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration/Management, or related field, or applicable experience in lieu of degree.
- 2+ years of HR experience; 2+ years of Benefits experience preferred.
- SHRM-CP credential or willingness to obtain certification preferred.
- General HR/Benefits knowledge.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
- Effective multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Highly self-motivated and directed.
