Assistant Controller
About the Company Our client is a newly capitalized, rapidly growing organization in the annuity and reinsurance sector. As part of a broader initiative to build a global alternative credit and insurance platform, the company is dedicated to delivering innovative financial solutions that empower individuals to retire with confidence.
Position Overview The Assistant Controller plays a critical role in overseeing day-to-day controllership activities and ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting under SAP, GAAP, and IFRS. This individual will lead financial close processes, serve as a subject matter expert on Oracle, strengthen internal controls, and partner with cross-functional teams to enhance efficiency and compliance. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical accounting expertise, insurance/annuity industry experience, and strong leadership in process improvement and team management.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all controllership operations while ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including preparation of financial statements and reconciliations.
Serve as Oracle system SME, supporting system enhancements and process optimization.
Oversee reconciliations of policyholder accounts, cash, and investment balances.
Manage accounts payable, lease accounting, accruals, and capitalized costs.
Maintain and enhance the internal control environment, including policies and SOPs.
Partner across finance and business teams to drive accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting; CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred.
710 years of progressive accounting and controllership leadership experience.
Strong technical knowledge of life insurance and annuity accounting; public accounting background is a plus.
Proficiency in accounting systems; expertise in Oracle and Clearwater preferred.
Proven leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
Ability to excel in a dynamic, fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
Compensation & Benefits
Base Salary:
$180,000
$200,000
OTE (bonus/long-term incentives):
$225,000
$250,000
Hybrid Schedule:
45 days in office initially, moving to 23 days with tenure.
Benefits:
