Human Resources Specialist (1099 Contractor)

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented HR Specialist (1099 Contractor) to provide contract-based HR support across recruiting, compliance, and team development. This role will partner closely with leadership to ensure HR practices align with company goals while maintaining flexibility in a fast-growing startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end recruiting efforts: job postings, candidate screening, interview coordination, and reference checks.
  • Support onboarding of new hires, including preparation of offer letters, contracts, and orientation schedules.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Maintain and update HR policies, contractor agreements, and compliance documentation.
  • Advise leadership on employment classification and wage/hour compliance.
  • Act as a resource for employees and contractors regarding HR processes, benefits, and workplace concerns.
  • Provide guidance on performance management, attendance, and conflict resolution.
  • Support leadership in creating training programs and professional development pathways.
  • Maintain accurate HR records, contracts, and compliance tracking.
  • Assist with payroll reporting coordination for contractors and employees.
  • Provide guidance and oversight of the payroll system.
  • Generate reports and metrics on recruiting, retention, and workforce planning.
  • Update and maintain employee handbook and paperwork.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience with PayCor.
  • Proven experience as an HR Specialist, HR Generalist, or similar role (3+ years preferred).
  • Knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong understanding of recruiting processes and applicant tracking.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a contract role with minimal oversight.
  • Proficiency with Google Workplace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides).
  • Professional, approachable, and detail-oriented with a proactive mindset.
  • Prior HR experience in manufacturing or startup environments is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks
  • Stand, bend, and reach for extended periods
  • Comfortable working in various environmental conditions, including exposure to dust and noise

Job Type
