Position Overview:
Under the primary supervision of the ULV Site Supervisor, the Ultra Low Volume Spray Truck Driver position is responsible for the safe, efficient applications of products to control mosquito populations in response to surveillance data. During periods of low to no mosquito-borne disease transmission, this position will assist other areas of Mosquito and Vector Control as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Applies insecticides by driving truck mounted Ultra Low Volume (ULV) spray equipment through assigned areas at night and enters data into the ULV monitoring systems.
- Performs appropriate control measures to adult mosquito and mosquito larvae populations in assigned areas as required.
- Monitors environmental and mechanical conditions during insecticidal applications to insure accurate delivery of material.
- Uses pesticides in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines, and records all usage.
- During the recovery period, assists in other duties such as maintenance of application equipment and vehicles, building and ground maintenance, cleaning duties and field surveying.
- Assists in non-technical service duties such as supporting surveillance, testing and evaluation, education, lab testing, inspections, or other operational needs of the Division and/or HCPH.

Requirements
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s License (Texas upon hire) along with a good driving record required for daily surveillance and collection of species.
- Must obtain a Pesticide Noncommercial Applicator License from the Texas Department Agriculture within one year of employment.
- At least four (4) years of stable employment history.
- At least one (1) full season of ULV truck driving experience with an organized mosquito control agency or a mosquito season’s experience with HCPH Mosquito Control may substitute for the four-year employment history requirement.
- Must be able to operate an electronic device used in the spray truck fleet.
- Basic skills using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proficient driving skills, particularly with large or specialized vehicles like ULV spray trucks
- Ability to navigate various terrains and conditions safely.
- Competence in using GPS and other navigation tools for effective route planning and area coverage.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members, supervisors, and the public.
- Must comprehend chemical labels and be willing to work with control-related chemicals (e.g., insecticides).
- Ability to work outdoors in various urban and natural environments and weather conditions.

General Information
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
- This is a Regular | Full Time position.
- Up 40 hrs per week.
- During high-disease transmission risk: ULV - (overnight) 8:30 pm - 5:00 am.
- During low-disease transmission risk: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
- Schedules may vary based on disease detection. This may include rotation between day and night schedules and changes to other duties as assigned. Must be willing to work flexible hours including weekends and occasional holidays.
- ULV: Position will primarily be assigned to operate a truck and application equipment in assigned area at night, while maintaining radio communication.
- Thermal Fogging/Larviciding: Position will operate a truck and application equipment in assigned areas during day. May also require fieldwork for surveys of assigned areas.
- Must be able to lift at least 75lbs. Must be able to sit and drive with occasional breaks. Field work may require walking on an incline, through brush and fields, lifting, stooping, and bending.
