The position is a Registered Nurse. Works at an ambulatory health care center as part of a team with physicians and other healthcare specialists. Position reports to the Supervisory Nurse or designee.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient care needs through analysis of data gained through interviews, review of health records, patient responses, and consultation with physician and other staff members.
• Plan and implement nursing care by providing or directing comprehensive nursing care based on assessment of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients.
• Administer therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician (e.g., medications, treatments, intravenous fluids, naso-gastric suction, irrigation, etc.).

Requirements

Conditions of employment: Selectee may be subject to a probationary period. U.S. Citizenship is required. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630 requiring contact or control over Indian children; the agency must ensure hires have not been found guilty of certain crimes. Adherence to IHS Employee Immunization Policy (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, COVID-19, influenza) or exemption request. Licensure: active RN license in a U.S. state/territory. Must obtain and maintain licensure requirements; failure to maintain may result in adverse actions, including removal from Federal service. Satisfactory completion of E-Verify employment verification check. Direct deposit setup required.

Background and Education

Background Investigation: Pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation required; clearance prior to hire. Continued employment contingent on suitability as determined by the investigation. False statements may lead to non-hire, termination, or criminal charges. Credit check may be a part of the process.

Education: This position has an education requirement. Submit transcripts or course list. Unofficial transcripts accepted in the package; official transcripts required from selectees before offer. Accredited education as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education is required. Foreign education requires a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with transcript.

Qualifications

To qualify, the resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower Federal grade. For GS-5: bachelor’s degree in Nursing with no experience, or diploma/associate degree with one year of professional nursing experience. For GS-7: bachelor’s degree with Superior Academic Achievement or one year of professional nursing experience; or diploma/associate with two years of professional nursing experience. For GS-9: master’s degree in nursing or at least one year of professional nursing experience with related nursing degree. Time-In-Grade requirements apply for federal employees in the competitive service.

You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the established cut-off date or closing date.

Additional Information

Per IHS policy, selectees in Federally operated facilities must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have exemptions. If exempt, mask-wearing and regular testing may be required. Location includes Yakima Service Unit or Western Oregon Service Unit. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized with at least a 6-month service agreement.
