Grade/Salary Range: CL 26-27 ($53,839-$96,147) Depending upon qualifications and experience. Promotion potential to CL-27 without further competition.

Overview

The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Information Technology Support Specialist. The IT Support Specialist provides administrative and technical support to the court in a wide range of areas. They perform routine troubleshooting and end-user support, and assist in installing, configuring, and maintaining computer hardware and software. They also perform routine network administration and participate in more complex duties including developing standards, recommending network infrastructure changes, and coordinating and implementing network security measures.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor day-to-day operations of equipment systems and diagnose/resolve computing system problems (hardware and software).
  • Install or assist in the installation of new or revised releases of software and national systems.
  • Create and maintain data dictionaries; develop and execute software system testing and documentation procedures.
  • Advise the Court on technology support, requirements, and capabilities, including anticipating future needs and resolving potential problems prior to implementation.
  • Respond to questions or requests by judges and court staff; support a large quantity of mobile computing devices.
  • Provide instruction and training on use and support of national and locally developed or customized systems.
  • Proficiently manage Active Directory and Windows operating systems; test software update releases for compatibility with existing hardware.
  • Receive, inventory, and configure hardware for deployment as directed by IT management.
  • Maintain and support courtroom Audio/Visual equipment and applications.
  • Oversee administration, operation, backup, and support of automation and networking systems (WAN/LAN), servers (Linux, Windows, VMware), remote access, desktops, telephones, mobile devices, websites, courtroom technologies, and emerging technologies.
  • Travel to other divisional offices as required; perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of specialized experience in office automation systems, data processing and data communications, including user applications and terminology.
  • Demonstrated experience with computer project assignments involving systems analysis, design, programming, implementation, integration, and management.
  • Thorough knowledge of PC software and hardware and strong technical support skills.
  • Excellent communication, prioritization, and teamwork abilities.

Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Technology or related field.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and networks, including troubleshooting operating errors.
  • Experience with software testing methods, preventive maintenance, and multiple information technology systems.
  • Ability to adapt programs and technology to user needs; customer service oriented.
  • Experience with cloud services, Microsoft systems, security software, Informix and LAN/WAN concepts preferred.

Conditions of employment

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the United States. The selected applicant will undergo FBI fingerprint checks and may be subject to periodic updates. Employment may begin provisionally pending completion of required checks. The position requires mandatory electronic funds transfer (direct deposit) for salary payments. Employees are appointed in the excepted service and serve at the pleasure of the Court. Adherence to the Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees is required.
