Overview
Vice President and Chief Information Officer The VP/CIO leads the strategic planning and delivery of technology and systems to support Shepherd Center’s operations, establishes long-term information needs, delivers effective IT infrastructure and cybersecurity, and serves as a member of the senior executive team reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. Responsibilities
Develops and implements IT strategy aligned with business priorities, and creates long- and short-range plans for information needs, systems development, hardware acquisition, cloud strategy, interoperability, and system integration. Develops and maintains IT policies, standards, and governance (change management, ITIL/ITSM, project/portfolio management) to maximize effectiveness and security while managing total cost of ownership. Identifies trends in the Health IT sector and interprets their implications for leadership, advising on opportunities and risks. Prioritizes IT initiatives with justification, including capital investments, data requirements, and affected departmental processes. Ensures IT projects, services, and operations meet scope, schedule, and budget objectives. Collaborates with internal departments to identify IT-enabled business value, proposes new approaches, and ensures IT requirements are understood and met. Fosters collaboration between IT and other departments and maintains relationships with key IT vendors to leverage investments and meet service levels. Develops, implements, and directs the organization’s information security program in line with business objectives. Plans and manages budgets and financial objectives for IT. Provides leadership to the IT team, ensuring adherence to Shepherd Center’s Standards of Behavior, building a high-performance staff, and planning for succession and future development. Represents IT in executive meetings and system-wide committees. Supports the organization’s vision, mission, and values and performs other duties as assigned to meet Shepherd Center’s goals. Maintains safety practices and reports safety issues according to center and departmental policies. Monitors regulatory compliance and identifies risk areas, supporting problem resolution. Required Minimum Education
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business administration, or a healthcare-related field; Master’s degree strongly preferred. Professional certifications appropriate for executive healthcare IT leadership (e.g., CHCIO, CPHIMS, CISSP). Continuing professional education with CHIME and/or HIMSS membership is a plus. Required Minimum Experience
10 years of information systems experience in healthcare or related setting; 5 years in a leadership role in healthcare or related setting. Experience developing enterprise IT strategies and leading transformation efforts. Required Minimum Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication and relationship-building skills. Strong performance management with change leadership and ability to achieve goals across stakeholders. Strategic and financial planning knowledge. Self-directed, proactive, with the ability to incorporate input from others. Interpersonal skills to interact with top management on IT concerns. Ability to build partnerships across functions and lead/drive change and continual improvement. Experience managing complex IT implementation projects and persuasive at the executive level. Ability to set clear priorities and solve complex issues with multiple requirements. Ability to develop and deploy a technology vision and strategy; attract and develop diverse IT talent. Knowledge of HIPAA security, privacy, and regulatory issues in healthcare. Strong planning, reporting, and administrative abilities for IT management.
