The

Vice President of Communications

is a strategic, hands-on leader responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive communications strategy to support the association’s advocacy, member engagement, and brand positioning. This role oversees internal and external communications, media relations, content development, digital channels, and executive communications to ensure values alignment and voice consistency. The Vice President of Communications works closely with the CEO, government relations, member engagement, and marketing teams. They provide direct supervision of the Director of Member Engagement and the Director of Marketing and Communications. Qualifications

Our Ideal Candidate: 8+ years of relevant experience, ideally in an advocacy organization, political institution, or bank Familiarity with the banking industry and knowledge of the legislative, regulatory, and policy environment Excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills across all channels Media relations experience, comfortable acting as spokesperson Ability to lead and manage a team by setting clear goals, monitoring progress, and fostering a culture of collaboration and teamwork Experience working cross-functionally Bachelor's Degree - Communications, Public Relations, Public Policy, or related field Responsibilities and daily activities

Strategic Communications Planning Develop and implement an integrated communications strategy that advances the association’s goals and enhances visibility with key audiences: members, policymakers, media, and the public. Work collaboratively with CEO, government relations, and marketing teams on the strategy. Keep current on banking industry and government developments. Messaging and Content Development Lead content development for daily, weekly, and monthly publications (originating content, writing, editing, proofreading, publishing, tracking). Craft compelling messaging and content for speeches, press releases, member updates, newsletters, social media, and web platform. Support the CEO and leadership team with executive communications, including talking points and presentations. Support board communications including preparing updates, reports, and briefing materials that align with the association’s strategic priorities. Support the Director of Marketing and Communications in the management of the association’s website refresh and continued oversight. Internal Communications Strategy Ensure staff and board members are well-informed and aligned with the association’s mission, initiatives, and policy priorities through effective internal communication. Leadership and Team Management Lead and mentor communications staff and/or contractors, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team. Manage relationships with external vendors, including PR firms, designers, and content creators. Collaborate closely with the Director of Member Engagement to ensure strategic alignment, while maintaining clear ownership of communications functions and channels. Work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications to ensure alignment of NYBA values and voice consistency in all marketing and communications efforts. Media and Public Relations Serve as the primary media contact. Develop awareness of Albany media corps, local, regional and national business and trade journalists. Coordinate response to media inquiries. Develop contacts to serve as alternative resources for media inquiries, such as national trade groups, legal experts, etc. Oversee digital strategy across web and social platforms to increase engagement. Coordinate and advance CEO public appearances. Develop and implement crisis communications plans to protect and defend the association’s reputation during sensitive or high-stakes situations. Advise the Leadership team during emerging issues or reputational threats. Member Communications Create effective member communications that inform, engage, and mobilize advocacy and community support by developing a keen awareness of banking industry trends and challenges. Work closely with CEO, government relations, member engagement, and marketing teams, as appropriate, on messaging and timing. Brand Management Ensure consistent brand voice and visual identity across all materials and channels. Develop knowledge of the association’s history and key achievements. Perform other duties as required to support the overall goals of the department/association. Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position.
