Overview The Department of Athletics seeks applicants for the position of Executive Director of Sports Medicine Services, with an immediate target start date. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated clinician to lead rehabilitation efforts for Wingate Athletics. The Executive Director of Sports Medicine will oversee a dynamic rehabilitation team of 14+ athletic trainers to meet NCAA standards for sideline coverage at practices and games and ensure high quality healthcare for student athletes following injury or surgery. Additionally, this position will provide direct patient care to student athletes and assist with return-to-play determinations. This individual will work closely with the Athletic Director, Director of Athletic Training, coaches, and team physicians. This role provides a unique leadership opportunity to develop rehabilitation programming for all athletic teams and deliver student-athlete-centered healthcare while contributing to the continued excellence of Wingate’s multiple sports.

Administrative Serve as the director of medical services for Wingate Athletics per NCAA health, safety, and performance recommendations Provide oversight of the rehabilitation team to ensure efficient and well-rehearsed delivery of physical rehabilitative care and return-to-play programming for student athletes Manage the creation and maintaining rehabilitation philosophies, frameworks, and return to play pathways for a variety of athletes Communicate with the Athletic Director, Director of Athletic Training, team physicians, and coaches to determine appropriate staffing, supervision, and sideline coverage Ensure compliance with all NCAA and SAC requirements for health and safety legislation and regulations that impact student athletes Work with the Athletic Director and other University administrators to develop and maintain strategic partnerships with area providers and external medical services Meets department financial demands, working within allotted budget Other job duties/responsibilities may be assigned as needed Clinical Provide evidenced-based interventions that optimize the physical and psychosocial welfare of the individual student-athlete Ability to work alongside providers of different disciplines in a team setting to optimize patient care and outcomes Evaluate, diagnose, and treat a wide variety of sports related, post-operative, and chronic diagnoses, including triage and referral to appropriate providers Develop, adopt, and implement rehabilitation pathway strategies for returning to high-level athletic performance Manage communication with Director of Athletic Training regarding collaborative rehabilitation and return to performance support services Maintains accurate and timely patient documentation and billing practices for the rehabilitation team, ensuring compliance with rehabilitation regulations Minimum Qualifications
Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainer in North Carolina Graduate of an accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy program (DPT) program and Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training Board-certified clinical specialization (ABPTS) in sports (SCS) or orthopaedic (OCS) physical therapy Experience with managing multi-disciplinary rehabilitation teams and/or clinical experience with university, Olympic, or professional-level athletes CPR and BLS certification Legally authorized to work in the United States Preferred Qualifications
3+ years clinical experience with university, Olympic, or professional-level athletes Master’s degree or higher in athletic training Advanced training or certification in concussion management and dry needling Certification in Strength and Conditioning (CSCS or similar) and/or sports performance Knowledge of NCAA and SAC standards for medical care for collegiate student-athletes
