Materials Engineer Opportunity

Volt is immediately hiring for a Materials Engineer in Bellevue, Washington Position Type: Full time (Contract) Duration: 12 months As a Materials Engineer you will be: To work as part of a high functioning team of engineers focused on materials processing, supply chain development and supplier qualification for next generation material and components for sodium-cooled fast reactors. The primary function of this role will be to oversee test programs at external laboratories and vendors. Data generated from the test programs feeds into advanced material performance models and provide key input for the design and licensing of the Natrium reactor. Responsibilities Provide direction and oversight of vendor-executed testing programs, working with the contract administrator and the lead engineer to ensure delivery of data and other deliverables to meet requirements. Work with technical leads to plan test programs for physical and mechanical properties, complex mechanical phenomena (e.g. creep, fatigue, creep-fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, and fracture), and other key phenomena Assist with the development of test requirement documents and statements of work (SOW) as necessary to communicate supplier technical work scope Support vendor selection activities with requests for proposal (RFP) and team review/selection process with assessments of supplier capabilities Provide direct vendor oversight through regular interface meetings and on-site visits Coordinate technical review process of vendor deliverables and ensure appropriate responses Assist with supplier audits per NQA-1-2015 Plan, execute, and oversee test programs designed to address data gaps Key Qualifications and Skills Minimum of 4 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or a Master's degree. A degree in Materials Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline is desired. A solid understanding of metallurgy including fabrication and thermomechanical processing of ferrous (e.g., ferritic-martensitic steels) and nonferrous (e.g., nickel-base) alloys is required A general understanding of the design of nuclear reactor and subsequent impacts on materials would be considered a plus Ability to work with minimum direction to solve challenging problems The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect, and a desire to foster teamwork Pay Rate: $75 to $80 per hour.
