Overview HealthEquity is seeking a hands-on Manager of Software Engineering to lead high-impact backend engineering teams responsible for delivering secure, scalable, and modern platforms in support of our identity, security, and communications systems. This role is integral to our platform modernization strategy and will help drive the design, development, and delivery of multi-factor authentication (MFA), passkey capabilities, backend services, and API development. What you'll be doing: Lead and mentor a team of approximately 15 engineers across 2-3 backend teams delivering services related to identity, authentication, and communication platforms. Provide hands-on technical guidance, conduct code and design reviews, and stay engaged in delivery execution. Support and enhance systems enabling MFA, passkey integration, and backend API development. Collaborate with vendors (e.g., Transmit Security, messaging platforms, email/phone gateways) to ensure robust integrations and maintain platform stability. Partner cross-collaboratively to ensure projects are aligned with business goals and delivered with quality and precision. Manage agile ceremonies, track key engineering metrics, identify and mitigate project risks and technical dependencies. Champion engineering best practices, continuous improvement, and a strong DevOps culture within your teams. Take ownership of your teams' applications, infrastructure, performance, and support operations. What you will need to be successful: 3+ years of experience managing backend engineering teams with a track record of hiring, coaching, and mentoring engineers. Strong leadership and collaboration mindset with the ability to foster cross-functional alignment and drive results. Proven ability to inspire, engage, and retain engineering talent, including remote team members. 7+ years of experience in software development, including architecture, coding, testing, delivery, and support. Deep experience with the Microsoft stack: .NET (C#), .NET Core, Azure, and SQL Server. Experience building enterprise-grade backend services in a multi-tenant environment using Microsoft technologies. Experience with GitHub-based code reviews and CI/CD pipelines. Familiarity with OpenID Connect (OIDC) and identity platforms; experience with MFA or passkey technologies is a plus. Understanding of Agile/Scrum, Kanban, and DevOps methodologies. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience. Experience working with identity, security, or communication platforms in regulated or high-scale environments. Demonstrated ability to define team-level OKRs or metrics that align with business and technical objectives. High quality standards and accountability for delivering secure, reliable, and customer-centric software. This is a remote position. Salary Range $127,000.00 To $165,500.00 / year Benefits and Perks The actual compensation offer is determined based on job-related knowledge, education, skills, experience, and work location.
