The Associate Buyer is an integral member of our Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) Buying team, with a primary focus on managing specific apparel categories. This role provides critical support and is essential for daily operational success, accurate reporting, and effective inventory management. The Associate Buyer reports to the Sr. Director of Buying.This role requires an analytical and strategic thinker who is detail-oriented and collaborative. The ideal candidate will be highly organized and proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word, with a strong understanding of retail math, OTB (Open-to-Buy) plans, assortment planning, and SKU management.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Buying and Merchandising: Manage the daily operations of specific categories. Provide administrative and operational support to the buying and planning teams. Maintain relationships with existing suppliers and internal product teams. Responsible for maintaining purchase orders. Attend market and vendor appointments to gain experience in merchandising strategies, product selection, and vendor negotiations. Analyze consumer buying patterns, predict future trends, and conduct market research to inform decisions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., stores, merchandising, planning) to ensure smooth execution. Inventory Management: Responsible for maintaining accurate pricing and executing pricing operations. Manage inventory KPIs to plan and react to changes in demand and logistics. Provide administrative and operational support for accurate inventory management. Assist in maintaining and organizing accurate records related to orders and vendor communication. Handle order entry and style creation. Reporting and Analysis: Generate and analyze various reports, including weekly decks and selling reports, to forecast sales levels and make data-driven decisions. Create and maintain documentation that outlines which reports represent specific data and how each report is used. Regularly review performance indicators such as sales and margin to identify areas of opportunity and improvement. Operations and Communication: Facilitate communication with stores regarding pricing, merchandising, and monthly directives. Coordinate sample organization and other business operations. SKILLS:
Strategic thinker with a results-driven mindset. Strong communication, presentation, and analytical skills. Possess a love of data and numbers as well as a passion for retail and product. Detail-oriented and highly organized. Collaborative. and a strong communicator. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is essential. Knowledge of retail math, OTB, assortment planning, and SKU management is required. Familiarity with brand management is a plus.
