Exciting Opportunity: High School Spanish TeacherAs a High School Spanish Teacher at Uncommon Schools, you will play a pivotal role in shaping students into global citizens. You will become an expert in your course content and inspire high school students to communicate confidently in Spanish. Your classroom will be a vibrant space where students feel safe to express themselves in a new language, preparing them for academic autonomy and college-level work.
Key Responsibilities1. Instruction
- Enhance students' bilingual skills and understanding of the Spanish language through a curriculum designed for Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate-level coursework.
- Boost students' confidence in navigating authentic print and audio sources.
- Teach essential foreign language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
- Cultivate cultural awareness as students learn a new language.
- Share your passion for Spanish to build a community of confident speakers.
- Encourage students to engage in conversations in Spanish.
- Collaborate with the Spanish department to set academic and engagement goals.
2. Data Analysis
- Meet weekly with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze student work samples and assessments.
- Implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners in your classroom.
3. School Culture
- Build positive relationships with students to ensure they feel seen, loved, and heard.
- Partner with families to provide resources that support their child's learning needs.
- Engage in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions.
- Participate in weekly school-wide meetings to foster community and encourage student achievement.
- Collaborate with your grade-level team to develop academic goals and instructional strategies.
- A strong commitment to supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic development.
- Enthusiasm for collaborating with internal and external partners for the benefit of students.
- A self-directed learner who actively seeks and implements feedback to improve outcomes.
- Required Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities preferred.
- Academic expertise in Spanish or related fields of study.
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required prior to employment. Certification is not mandatory to start, but you must meet NY state certification eligibility requirements and enroll in a teacher preparation program if you do not have a degree in education.

CompensationThe salary for this role ranges from $50,000 to $64,700, determined by factors such as relevant teaching experience, education certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time teaching experience will likely start at $50,000.
