Exciting Opportunity: High School Spanish TeacherAs a High School Spanish Teacher at Uncommon Schools, you will play a pivotal role in shaping global citizens. Collaborating with grade-level and content teams, you will inspire and motivate high school students to master the Spanish language. Your classroom will be a vibrant space where students feel safe to express themselves and grow into confident, autonomous learners.
Your Responsibilities1. Instruction
- Enhance students' bilingual skills and prepare them for Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate-level coursework.
- Boost students' confidence in navigating authentic print and audio sources.
- Teach essential foreign language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
- Cultivate cultural awareness through language learning.
- Share your passion for Spanish to foster a community of confident speakers.
- Encourage engaging conversations in Spanish.
- Collaborate with the Spanish department to set academic and engagement goals.
2. Data Analysis
- Meet weekly with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze student work and assessments.
- Implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners.
3. School Culture
- Build positive relationships with students to ensure they feel seen, loved, and heard.
- Partner with families to provide resources that support their child's learning needs.
- Engage in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching.
- Participate in weekly school-wide meetings to foster community and encourage student achievement.
- Collaborate with your grade-level team to develop academic goals and instructional strategies.
- A strong commitment to supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic development.
- Enthusiasm for collaboration with internal and external partners for student success.
- A self-directed learner who actively seeks and implements feedback.
- Required Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities preferred.
- Academic expertise in Spanish or related fields.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. Certification is not mandatory at hiring, but you must meet NY state certification eligibility requirements.

CompensationThe salary for this role ranges from $50,000 to $64,700. Starting pay is determined by various factors, including relevant teaching experience and education certifications.
