The Health Information Management Specialist II is cross trained on multiple functions including Psych Consult, MyAvatar, Penelope, Cerner, Evolv, Chart Assembly, Loose Filing, and Release of Information, as well as chart closure and discharge, ordering forms and supplies for the records department, chart audits, communications via e-mail, pulling and filing requested charts, sending and distributing faxed information, and other general office duties in the medical records area. The role requires assessing and prioritizing needs, following through on assignments, and maintaining confidentiality of individuals served. Responsibilities

Perform quality monitoring of patient demographic information. Retrieve and sort health information into proper chart order; ensure records are updated with required forms, signed and dated documents. Assist individuals with the Release of Information process and process requests for health information. Request records from outside facilities and prepare paper medical records for electronic scanning and indexing. Scan/upload documents into the EMR and perform quality checks on images for clarity and accuracy. Purge and archive medical records as needed. Provide administrative support to clinical staff and process outgoing mail daily. Assist with training of HIM staff and volunteers; cover other medical records departments for the assigned region. Order office supplies and participate in regular supervision, team, and unit staff meetings. Maintain an acceptable work record, meet designated benchmarks/quality measures, and perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Education and Experience:

High School/GED with 3 years of general office experience, preferably in a medical or psychiatric setting. Technical school/training may substitute for work experience. General knowledge of HIPAA guidelines. Mathematical Skills:

Basic math skills required. Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense as needed; able to handle simple instructions and standard situations with minimal variables. Computer Skills:

Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel; ability to use the Internet; typing 45+ wpm and 10-Key entry experience. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Current State of Texas Driver License or applicable license in your state; if licensed elsewhere, must obtain Texas license within three months of employment; liability insurance if operating a personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business; must be insurable by Center's liability carrier; must have acceptable driving record.
