Certified Medical Assistant

Certified Medical Assistant performs various office and clinical duties to keep our healthcare practice running efficiently. They work directly with healthcare practice staff to collect test samples, maintain patient records, explain common medical procedures to patients and assist in basic examinations under the direction of the licensed healthcare provider. They work as an integral part of the clinical teams across all medical specialties that HOPE Clinic offers to our patients. Major duties and responsibilities include competency in front desk, eligibility and check out procedures; placing patients in exam rooms, obtaining history and vital signs, and documenting in the medical records; assisting in the examination and procedures for patients with provider; providing treatments as ordered; assessing medical and medical education needs of the patient and providing education; performing laboratory and diagnostic procedures; learning and applying vaccine schedule; providing translation assistance; triaging patients; answering telephone calls; providing education and instructions on lab and diagnostic results; keeping patient exam rooms and nursing station stocked with supplies; reviewing the providers schedule; following up on no show appointments; working with other members and managers to implement daily duties and new programs; working with other clinical departments; participating in performance improvement activities; reporting errors or issues promptly; maintaining security of medical records; ordering medical supplies; ensuring patients get the best possible care; being flexible to provide coverage; and attending on-site/off-site community engagement activities and clinic events. Qualification requirements include a minimum of two years in health education, patient navigation, and/or health clinic patient assistance field; CMA or RMA is required or willingness to obtain within 3-month probationary period; knowledge of HIPAA standards; knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to use the internet; ability to use basic office equipment; strong written and oral communication skills; detail oriented and able to handle multi tasks; excellent customer service skills; ability to handle multiple tasks, complexity, and diversity of patients; and insurance and medical experience preferred. Education and/or experience required: High School diploma or GED is required; Associates Degree preferred. Completion of a program of training for Medical Assistants is required. Experience as a Medical Assistant preferred. Other skills and abilities include bilingual (Vietnamese, Chinese, Burmese, Arabic and/or Spanish with English) is required; above average skills in language ability as well as public speaking and writing; willingness to work in different department and/or travel to satellite sites to provide coverage; and must have good transportation and a valid Texas Driver's license.
