Certified Medical Assistant
The Certified Medical Assistant performs various office and clinical duties to keep the Pediatric Department at our healthcare facility run efficiently. They will work directly with healthcare practice staff to collect test samples, maintain patient records, explain common medical procedures to patients and assist in basic examinations under the direction of the licensed healthcare provider. They work as an integral part of the clinical teams across all medical specialties that HOPE Clinic offers to our patients. Major responsibilities include competency in front desk, eligibility and check out procedures; conducting efficient and complete triage of pediatric patients including but not limited to, rooming patients and accurate documentation into EMR system. Performing accurate pediatrics measurements of new borns (length, weight, FOC), hearing tests, eye exams, current medication logging and updating, vital signs, updating and maintaining vaccine records both in EMR and ImmTrac2. Able to assess patient appointment needs and able to identify the reason of the visit; assist in the examination and procedures for patients with provider; being familiar with medical terminology and medical supplies to ensure accurate preparation for provider. Additional duties include encouraging new patients to provide appropriate documentation for vaccines or other medical records for their first visit (list of medication, provide previous doctor's information to get medical records); provide treatments as ordered such as aerosol treatments, immunizations, and injections; assess medical and health literacy needs of the patient and provide education as directed by provider; discharge patients by giving all patient documents and provider instructions while scheduling follow up appointments. Follow up on no-show appointments as instructed by provider. The role also requires providing education and instructions on lab and diagnostic results, medication refills by telephone and in person for patients; perform laboratory and diagnostic procedures such as ear lavage cleanings and new born PKUs. Urinary catheterization experience is desired but not required. Learn and apply vaccine schedule accordingly to CDC recommendation based on doctor's order. Experience with Immtrac2, Eclinicalworks and TVFC Program/the ability to quickly learn programs. Provide translation assistance as needed; triage patients in person and on the telephone; answer telephone calls and messages within the same day; keep patient exam rooms and nursing station stocked with supplies and organized; order medical supplies as determined by inventory needs; review the providers schedule throughout the day and prior to the start of shift to ensure patient flow; navigate medical referrals on a weekly basis as assigned by provider to ensure patient has access to all healthcare needs as needed. Work with other clinical departments as needed to ensure adequate MA coverage for HOPE Clinic; participate in performance improvement activities, staff trainings, and weekly team huddles; report errors or issues promptly to supervisor; maintain security of medical records and patients health information according to HIPAA standards; ensure that our patients get the best possible care while providing excellent customer service; scan medical records, medical releases and disclosures as needed and on a daily basis; attend on-site/off-site community engagement activities and on-site/off-site clinic events as needed; must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with the recommended dosages; perform other duties as assigned to support HOPE Clinic's Mission, Vision, and Values.
