Certified Medical Assistant
The Certified Medical Assistant performs various office and clinical duties to keep the Pediatric Department at our healthcare facility running efficiently. They work directly with healthcare practice staff to collect test samples, maintain patient records, explain common medical procedures to patients, and assist in basic examinations under the direction of the licensed healthcare provider. They work as an integral part of the clinical teams across all medical specialties that HOPE Clinic offers to our patients. Major duties and responsibilities include competency in front desk, eligibility, and check-out procedures; conducting efficient and complete triage of pediatric patients; performing accurate pediatrics measurements; assisting in the examination and procedures for patients; being familiar with medical terminology and medical supplies; encouraging new patients to provide appropriate documentation; providing treatments as ordered; assessing medical and health literacy needs; discharging patients; providing education and instructions on lab and diagnostic results; performing laboratory and diagnostic procedures; learning and applying vaccine schedules; providing translation assistance; triaging patients; answering telephone calls and messages; keeping patient exam rooms and nursing stations stocked with supplies; reviewing the provider's schedule; navigating medical referrals; working with other clinical departments; participating in performance improvement activities; reporting errors or issues; maintaining security of medical records; ensuring patients get the best possible care; scanning medical records; attending community engagement activities; and performing other duties as assigned. Qualification requirements include a minimum of two years in health education, patient navigation, and/or health clinic patient assistance; CMA or RMA is required; knowledge of HIPAA standards; knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to utilize the Internet; ability to use basic office equipment; strong written and oral communication skills; detail-oriented and a team player; excellent customer service skills; ability to handle multiple tasks; insurance verification, pre-authorizations, and specialist referral navigation experience; and being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with the recommended dosages. Education and/or experience required includes a high school diploma or GED; an associate's degree is preferred; completion of a program of training for Medical Assistants is required; experience as a Medical Assistant is preferred. Other skills and abilities include bilingual proficiency in Vietnamese, Chinese, Burmese, Arabic, Spanish, or other languages with English; above average skills in language ability, public speaking, and writing; willingness to work in different departments and/or travel to satellite sites to provide coverage; and having good transportation and a valid Texas Driver's license.
