Recreation Center Supervisor

An employee in this position will assist in the planning, organizing, supervising and conducting a wide variety of activities, operations and programs in support of an assigned Recreation Center(s); and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. This position will serve as a supervisor and engage in the activities being performed by subordinates; performs administrative duties which support assigned functions including preparing participation and inventory records, completed work orders, and maintenance activities. Hiring Range: $36,697.00 Essential functions of the position include: Planning, organizing, supervising, conducting and promoting a wide variety of activities, operations, and programs for various age groups and special populations including such programs as youth and adult athletics, day camps, recreation and art classes, and special events. Preparing flyers, brochures for promotions; activities; keeping bulletin boards and outside sign boards current; coordinating programming with Recreation Program Supervisor. Scheduling times and securing locations for a variety of programs and group rentals; maintaining rosters of participants. Registering participants for various recreational programs and events; collecting fees and completing proper forms; maintaining various records of events. Inspecting facilities to determine adequacy for programs, safety and maintenance needs; coordinating maintenance schedules with program schedules; assisting with facility needs planning. Maintaining inventory of equipment and supply needs; making recommendations for budget of activities and programs. Assisting in supervising other part time staff; supervising outdoor activities. Enforcing center rules and regulations; monitoring activities and operations both inside and outside of facility. Performing daily housekeeping chores such as cleaning restrooms, sweeping/vacuuming floors, emptying trash containers and picking up trash. Assisting Recreation Program Supervisor or co-workers with other departmental programs and activities, as needed. Assisting in the preparation of regular and special reports as required. Must be able to drive and operate a vehicle as needed. Performs other related duties as required. Minimum requirements to perform work include: Associate's degree in recreation administration, physical education or related field; Three (3) years of related work experience; Or equivalent education and/or experience. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license. Ability to obtain CPR certification to include AED training within first 90 ninety days of employment. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include: Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of recreation and leisure time programs. Knowledge of current literature, trends, and developments in the field of public recreation. Knowledge of standard resources, materials, and facilities utilized in a public recreational program. Knowledge of needs analysis, marketing, program evaluation, and other management tools necessary for program effectiveness. Knowledge of modern and effective leadership principles and practices including motivations, communications, and evaluation. Knowledge of the County's personnel policies. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products Skill in meeting facilitation, customer relations, and collaborative conflict resolution. Skill in organizing. Ability to effectively plan and execute a year round program of activities. Ability to plan and coordinate the work of temporary, volunteer, or paid workers. Ability to express ideas effectively and communicate effectively in oral and written forms. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County and Municipal officials, private athletics associations, citizens, employees, supervisors, and participants. Physical demands include: Must be able to perform sedentary work and frequently exerting up to 20 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally. This work also involves the physical abilities of balancing, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, discriminating among sounds, kneeling, lifting, having manual dexterity, using mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, performing repetitive motion, speaking, standing, expressing ideas by the spoken word, and walking. An incumbent must also possess the visual acuity to analyze data, work with color, operate a computer, and inspect for defects. Work environment: The employee works at multiple recreational centers.
