Accounting Technician Or Accounting Specialist

The City of Grand Forks is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Technician or Accounting Specialist depending on qualifications. This position is customer service focused and plays a key role in managing and maintaining accurate utility billing records, processing payments, handling customer account inquiries, and supporting the broader finance team. Examples of duties include processing billing and receivables, preparing billing and collection statements, reviewing and reconciling accounts, entering data on a computer, balancing check runs, processing payroll, coding invoices, and answering questions within assigned areas of responsibility. Additional duties may include performing clerical accounting and bookkeeping work, coordinating accounts payable, and performing a variety of clerical duties. Typical qualifications for the Accounting Technician include knowledge of modern office procedures, principles of basic accounting, financial record keeping, and mathematical principles. Skills include clear communication, effective interaction, and the ability to perform a variety of accounting activities. Abilities include making arithmetic calculations, responding to inquiries, preparing correspondence, operating office equipment, and establishing working relationships. Typical qualifications for the Accounting Specialist include knowledge of accounting principles, bookkeeping and cost accounting, financial record keeping, and mathematical computations. Skills include clear communication, effective interaction, and the ability to perform responsible and difficult payroll work. Abilities include applying accounting principles, working independently, maintaining confidential records, preparing financial reports, and establishing working relationships. Experience requirements include three years of increasingly responsible accounting or bookkeeping experience for the Accounting Technician, and five years of increasingly responsible accounting or bookkeeping experience for the Accounting Specialist. Education or training equivalent to an Associate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting or a related field is required. A valid driver's license is also required for the Accounting Specialist.
