Social Worker – MSW for Indiana University Health

Location: Methodist Hospital

Department: CII - Spiritual Care

Shift: Full-Time, Day Shift

Join IU Health's dedicated team as a Social Worker to collaborate with the healthcare team, ensure patients receive timely services, resources, and emotional support. Experience in healthcare, mental health, or community-based settings is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure safe, timely patient services.
  • Interpret and communicate complex patient and family needs, modeling caring practices.
  • Assess psychosocial factors through evaluation of prior functioning, support systems, reactions to illness, and coping skills.
  • Counsel patients and families on emotional, social, and financial impacts of illness/disability.
  • Access and mobilize community and family resources to meet identified needs.
  • Conduct mental health assessments upon physician referral and provide therapeutic interventions.
  • Facilitate complex discharge planning to ensure smooth transitions.
  • Serve as the point person for cases involving child abuse/neglect, adult/elderly abuse/neglect, institutional abuse, and domestic violence.
  • Act as liaison between IU Health and protective agencies, foster care, guardianship, and mental health providers.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) required.
  • Licensure: Permanent LSW licensure required; LCSW licensure preferred. Temporary LSW license may be considered with full licensure expected within the first year.
  • Experience & Skills: 0-3 years of relevant healthcare, mental health, or community-based experience; knowledge of disease impact, human behavior, and legal mandates related to child and adult protective services; strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills; ability to develop and maintain relationships with community agencies, law enforcement, schools, and healthcare providers; proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
