Project Accountant

We are a well-established and growing commercial construction company based in Jacksonville, FL, known for delivering high-quality projects across the Southeast. Our team values collaboration, accountability, and precision. We're currently seeking a Project Accountant to support financial operations across multiple active job sites and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

Position Overview

The Project Accountant will serve as a key liaison between the accounting department, project managers, and external vendors. This role is responsible for managing all job cost accounting functions for assigned projects, ensuring accuracy in billing, budgeting, and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Track and manage all project-related financial activity including budgets, contracts, change orders, and billing
  • Monitor job cost reports and provide variance analysis to project managers
  • Review and process subcontractor invoices, lien waivers, and pay applications
  • Prepare monthly AIA billing and assist in collections when necessary
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure timely and accurate financial data entry
  • Assist with project close-out including final billing and reconciliation
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes related to project accounting
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, contract terms, and industry regulations
  • Work closely with external auditors or CPA firms as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 25 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based environments
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, job costing, and WIP reporting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, Procore, or CMiC)
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AIA billing
  • Familiarity with lien laws and subcontractor compliance documents
  • CPA or pursuing CPA a plus
