Overview

Research Data Analyst at Yale University. The research analyst will work with a dynamic and growing research team led at YSN by Dr. Deena Costa and provide programming, reporting and data management support for researchers and research initiatives. The position supports the COLLAB-RN initiative to enhance nursing workforce with affiliates across Yale and Yale New Haven Health. The analyst is responsible for developing queries, reports, and application programming and requires strong technical and analytical skills, as well as communication and collaboration to deliver accurate results. The analyst must review data project requirements and develop programming to extract data from electronic health systems, adhere to data compliance policies, communicate with researchers, and document projects and track status in department systems.

Salary Range $61,500.00 - $91,875.00

Responsibilities

  • Manage datasets from electronic health system records and other sources.
  • Develop queries, reports, data extracts and programming using a variety of tools and applications.
  • Communicate with researchers to understand data requirements and develop extract specifications; determine the best options for providing resulting data.
  • Attend team meetings and collaborate to develop, utilize and share best practices; proactively contribute to process improvements.
  • Review research protocols and compliance policies; ensure data is provided in accordance with HIPAA and Yale policies.
  • Prepare project documentation and maintain project status in departmental tracking tools.
  • Contribute expertise and provide training related to projects, methodologies, or data.
  • Apply and keep current with existing and emerging technologies.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on health services or health policy research, epidemiology or biostatistics.
  • Proven experience with statistical software such as R, SAS or STATA.
  • Ability to work in team environments and on independent projects; ability to manage priorities and multiple projects.
  • Ability to learn, understand and communicate implications of federal regulations and university policies related to clinical research and data compliance.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; able to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

  • Master’s degree or higher in a related scientific discipline with relevant certifications.
  • Prior experience in a research setting handling laboratory animals and techniques such as CRISPR, flow cytometry, or next-generation sequencing.
  • Proficiency with data management tools, statistical software, and database systems (e.g., REDCap, Qualtrics, SPSS).
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance, biosafety protocols, and ethical guidelines for human and animal research.
  • Technical competence in using and maintaining specialized equipment and software; experience with environmental or clinical data analysis tools.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Recommend design and implementation of procedures and protocols under supervision; investigate and analyze to reach preliminary scientific conclusions related to research planning.
  • Ensure data results are compiled, analyzed, and presented properly; interpret scientific results and maintain documentation; prepare scientific reports.
  • Perform independent research and laboratory techniques; participate in experimental research planning.
  • Interact with internal contacts (PI, research assistants, graduate students, Radiation Safety, Biological Safety officers, Animal Care personnel) to discuss results and ensure safe operation of the laboratory.
  • Interact with external contacts to consult on methods and stay informed of product information and developments.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
  • Required Education and Experience: Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and one year of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
