Departmental Overview The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at UC Berkeley is a worldwide leader in engineering solutions to societal-scale challenges. CEE conducts cutting-edge research in areas addressing infrastructure, energy, transportation and water systems, and seeks sustainable improvements for a growing urban world. The Events and Operations Manager oversees the planning and execution of a portfolio of CEE events, including the annual Gala, Alumni Dinners, retreats, student outreach, seminars, and regular meetings. Responsibilities include event planning, scheduling, catering, travel, reimbursements, budgeting, and front office operations (scheduling and supervision of student assistants, ordering and maintaining office supplies, coordinating staff recognitions, and supporting the Department Manager and Chair with special projects). Responsibilities 40% Leads coordination and implementation of the annual Academy of Distinguished Alumni banquet, including logistics, catering, parking, AV, registration, sponsorship solicitation, reimbursements, program creation, commemorative orders, and related communications. In collaboration with Academic Affairs, supports career placement activities for Professional Masters degree students (information sessions, industry meetings, career fairs, alumni/student events). Works with department leadership to implement programs and events engaging alumni, donors, and students. Coordinates Distinguished Lectures, Lightning Talks, ad hoc seminars, and celebratory events; handles logistics, publicity, AV, setup/breakdown, reimbursements, and archives. Provide strategic input into alumni and external engagement planning; design outreach initiatives to build long-term relationships; track and analyze engagement data; maintain constituent databases; evaluate outcomes and adjust strategies accordingly. 20% Develops and implements programs, events, and communications to inform alumni and other constituencies about institutional programs and practices; coordinates marketing for department admissions and programs. 20% Provides administrative support to the Department Manager and Chair and manages the department front office and student staff. 20% Under supervision, administers components supporting Professional Masters students, enhances relationships with industry partners, coordinates career-related events, and engages with alumni/donors; supports fundraising and donor relations while ensuring appropriate engagement levels.
Required Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of building and maintaining effective relations with alumni and key constituencies. Thorough knowledge of the campus mission, programs, and issues of concern. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with tact and political acumen. Analytical thinking, sound judgment, and ability to identify problems and propose strategic resolutions. Project management and event planning skills; ability to meet deadlines. Knowledge of content management systems or relevant web applications. Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills to engage a diverse group of stakeholders. Customer service orientation with flexibility and adaptability. Reliability and punctuality with strong attention to detail. Bachelors degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Salary & Benefits
