STUDENT INFORMATION SUPERVISOR

Part I: Position Summary :
Coordinates and manages the student information systems for the North Thurston Public Schools. Provides professional development training to staff in the use of the Skyward record system and district standard office software applications. Works collaboratively with the appropriate directors and principals in the leadership and vision of student information.
The District represents a diverse community with a population of approximately 57% students with diverse backgrounds. We seek an individual who has successful experience in working with culturally and linguistically diverse families and communities. The selected candidate must demonstrate a commitment to strengthening community engagement and communication with the District's diverse populations.
Part II: Supervision and Controls over the Work :
Serves under the direction of the administrator responsible for Assessment. Work is guided by operating procedures and practices, database management procedures, system security procedures, Board policy, and district administrator direction.
Part III: Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs some or all of the following duties with a relative degree of independence:
Ability to work in Comprehensive Education Data and Research System (CEDARS) and Skyward environments. Serves as system manager and data base administrator for the student information system. Maintains substantive knowledge of system design to include data elements and relationships; data input, retrieval, importing, and reporting; data validation and quality control procedures; and interrelationship with other district systems. Supervises Student Records and Archives staff. Plans for and provides training to student information system (WSIPC) users (classified, certificated and newly hired) and provides help desk support as required. District lead for state EDS Security Administration. Establishes and/or assures system security for the protection of student information under FERPA. Assists and advises staff members on data access and use. Participates in planning and problem solving meetings and discussion offering input on system support in planning and problem solving. Provide ongoing professional staff development in the student information system and the NTPS standard office software applications. Updates course coding for all secondary schools. Manages systems and runs monthly reports as required from the Skyward system consistent with state and local reports and for record keeping. Familiarity with relevant state and federal reporting requirements. Consults with district administrative staff to determine student data needs for grant writing and departmental reporting needs. Manipulates data and generates reports as required for operational and planning purposes. Maintains liaison with system providers and users including WSIPC, ESD, OSPI, and other districts as appropriate. Performs extracts, downloads, and file-joins of data from the Skyward system requested by OSPI, OCR, district administration and school staff. Liaison regarding data transfer between the Skyward system and third party software suites. Supervise and coordinates the work of assigned Office Professionals. Performs other duties as assigned. Part IV: Minimum Qualifications:
Incumbents must have successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities, or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population. Demonstrated sensitivity to the cultural, ethnic, gender and religious diversity of staff and public. An Associate's Degree or equivalent in technology, computer programming, database administration, or related fields. Related experience may be substituted for education. Experience in systems administration that demonstrated strong analytical skills and in-depth knowledge of information technology services. Manipulating data using a variety of tools, including spreadsheets and relational databases, importing data files that conform to specifications. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, to include skill in developing and presenting training materials and information. Experience and comfortable with training of staff and coordination of trainings and workshops. Ability to work both independently and cooperatively, exercise judgment and creativity, organize work, set priorities, and meet inflexible deadlines. Ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees. Strong internal and external customer service skills. Knowledge and skill in the effective use and application of technology and data base systems as well as office and administrative systems and tools such as EXCEL, Filemaker PRO, WORD, POWERPOINT, OUTLOOK, PUBLISHER, Flat Files, ASCII files and Student Information Systems or comparable systems. Ability to produce professional documents using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher. Has high work standards and pays close attention to detail. Part V: Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in technology or technology related fields. Second language skills. Experience in a public school setting.
