General Definition of Work

The Chief of Staff, under minimal supervision, performs senior level work with extensive decision-making discretion overseeing a wide range of matters of institutional importance in collaboration with and on behalf of the Superintendent. This position supports daily operations of the district and provides leadership, decision-making, and operational assistance to Cabinet and executive staff to ensure strategic goals are prioritized. Employee is a member of the Superintendent's Executive Cabinet and performs highly advanced and supervisory work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures under the direction of the Superintendent.

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

Essential Functions

Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures Lead, manage, supervise, and evaluate assigned programs/staff in the district Serve as Superintendent's strategic key advisor Develops, maintains, and monitors an organizational excellence framework of standards, processes, and best practices to ensure the district achieves remarkable performance and delivers exceptional value to its stakeholders by focusing on continuous improvement, customer focus, employee engagement, and strategic alignment. Serve as strategic liaison to the Superintendent for internal/external stakeholders; escalate/provide critical information/updates to the Superintendent Navigate the interworking and political landscape of Board relations, local and state government, and partnerships with business, philanthropic, and non-profit communities Coordinate Cabinet and executive staff meetings, including agenda preparation Coordinate the preparation of reports for Board meetings, Board committees (management oversight reports) and other uses as determined by the Superintendent Collaborate with Cabinet members to develop and maintain a running narrative of accomplishments, including impacts to district operations and student achievement, to serve as a foundation for the superintendent's annual evaluation process Collaborate with the legal and compliance departments to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, board policies, and other guidelines and mandates Strategically manage the Superintendent's calendar to ensure alignment of engagements with the Board's mission, vision, core values, and student outcome focused goals Coordinate feedback on the district's performance from stakeholders, including students, families, staff, community and business partners, and develop recommendations Participate/represent the Superintendent on various committees, to include Board, local, regional and/or state committees, panels, boards, taskforces, working groups, etc. Coordinate Superintendent directed correspondence/communication by assigning to appropriate staff, and/or researching and drafting response for Superintendent Respond to or obtain responses to requests for information from members of the Board and constituents via the Board operations process on a wide variety of topics Coordinate Cabinet members to support the work of the Board of Education's Committees Represent the district and/or Superintendent at various public events including ribbon-cuttings, receptions, school events, community events, etc. Facilitate/coordinate/manage special projects and initiatives, as identified through strategic planning and continuous improvement processes Serve as Superintendent's representative on various Advisory Councils, to include teachers, principals, support staff, and students Leads the Administrative Services department to ensure the District's Customer Service model and platform Attend regular and called meetings of the Board of Education as needed/required Facilitate staff meetings and attend other related meetings as needed/required Participate in professional development workshops and leadership training Perform related work as assigned or required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Comprehensive in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of school administration Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements applicable to public school systems Ability to maintain professional and emotional control under stress Ability to reflect appropriate responses to situations, while maintaining a professional and personal demeanor Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs Ability to develop and monitor a budget Ability to direct and evaluate the work of others Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operations Ability to communicate effectively Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums Ability to problem-solve utilizing sound judgment Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding school system business Ability to develop related charts, graphs, reports, and records pertaining to school planning and strategy Ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgement Ability to conceptualize, initiate, monitor, and evaluate new and/or current programs Demonstrated ability to perform detailed work, planning, risk assessments, and associated risk mitigation actions Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven, rapidly changing team environment Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in education required Master's degree in School Administration or related area preferred NC Certification (Principal or Superintendent) preferred Minimum of five (5) years' experience as building or district administrator preferred Equivalent combination of experience and education Special Requirements

Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings # of Jobs 1.00
