Essential Duties & Responsibilities The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Processes payments, reviews accounts, and runs reports. Obtains and records customer information in system. Provides customer service by answering questions and addressing concerns, in person, on the phone, or via email. Performs related work as required. Competencies for Successful Performance of Job Duties Knowledge of arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). Knowledge of handling cash in excess of $10,000 on a daily basis. Knowledge of balancing a cash drawer. Knowledge of handling office equipment to include a 10-key calculator, scanner, money counter, and copier. Knowledge of general office procedures and methods including computing skills and data entry skill set. Knowledge of City Ordinances. Skill in cash handling of cash, coins, checks, debit/credit cards with a high level of accuracy. Skills in cash drawer reconciliation and proper documentation of all transactions. Skills in organization and time management. Skills in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy. Skills of good communication including clear speaking, active listening, appropriate tone depending on audience and situation, show empathy and use positive non-verbal cues and choose words that convey compassion and respect. Ability to perform quick mental math. Ability to maintain confidentiality of accounts and be trustworthy when handling sensitive account information. Ability to follow directions, adhere to privacy laws and comply with City of Laredo and Tax Department policies. Ability to rotate work locations at City Hall and City Hall Annex. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing in English and Spanish. Ability to be friendly and approachable. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and having team-oriented mindset. Ability to meet schedules and deadlines of work. Ability to maintain a valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record. Ability to demonstrate strong communication skills, including clear and articulate speaking, active listening, and using an appropriate tone based on the situation. Ability to shows empathy, uses positive non-verbal cues, and chooses words that convey compassion and respect. Work Environment/Conditions and Physical Demands Physical Effort Requirements: Position will have the following exposures: Office or similar indoor environment, relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met. Exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects. Work Environment Locations: Position will require the employee to work in the following types of work environments: Never: Street environment (near moving traffic), Construction site, Confined space Seldom: Warehouse environment Sometimes: Outdoor environment Often: Office or similar indoor environment, Vehicle Exposures: Position will require the employee to be exposed to the following environmental elements: Never: Extreme cold (below 32 degrees), Extreme heat (above 100 degrees), Communicable diseases, Moving mechanical parts, Fumes or airborne particles, Toxic or caustic chemicals or substances Sometimes: Individuals who are hostile or irate Frequently: Loud noises (85+ decibels such as heavy trucks, jack hammers, construction), Other: Loud noises from LED Televisions at the City Hall Annex (Utilities) Often: Individuals who are hostile or irate Travel: Position will require the employee to travel: Never: National travel, International travel Seldom: Local travel, Regional travel Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or G.E. equivalency. At least one (1) year of experience in bank telling, payment processing, cash handling, or customer service. At least two (2) years of cash handling experience of collections in excess of $10,000 per day. Valid Licenses and Certifications
Required Licenses or Certifications: Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment. As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment. Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment. Effective January 7, 2008, all persons in safety-sensitive functions/positions, as per City of Laredo Drug and Alcohol Policy definition, shall be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
