Overview

Human Resources Generalist at HealthCare Access Maryland (HCAM). This exempt position provides administrative and analytical support for the Human Resources Department. The role assists the Human Resources Director as needed and is responsible for HR-related processes including benefits administration, employee administration and support, leave management, payroll processing, and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Daily check the Human Resources inbox and respond to employee inquiries within 24-48 hours.
  • Act as the liaison between employees and Guardian Life for Short-term disability claims and FMLA.
  • Maintain and update employee records in SharePoint and HRIS.
  • Assist Director of HR with compliance audits.
  • Assist in policy development and implementation.
  • Assist with onboarding new employees and new hire orientation.
  • Initiate and follow through with all Worker’s Compensation claims.
  • Assist with training development and presentation to employees on topics such as policies and procedures, changes in employment law, etc.

Benefit Administration

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries regarding benefits policies and individual coverage questions.
  • Conduct benefits orientation and educational programs for new hires during annual enrollment.
  • Assist in processing 401k distributions.
  • Keep up-to-date records of employee participation in all benefits and retirement programs.

Compliance

  • Ensure all HR practices comply with federal, state and local laws.
  • Assist in gathering HR data for audits.

Data Analysis

  • Weekly run leave of absence reports.
  • Track hours of employees who have leave cases.
  • Monthly and quarterly run termination reports.
  • Yearly runs turnover reports.
  • Assist Director of HR with EEO and AAP reporting.
  • Partner with finance to reconcile all benefit billing.
  • Conduct employee surveys and compile data for analysis.

Payroll

  • Bi-weekly prepare payroll data for processing, reconcile payroll discrepancies, and ensure accurate reporting and documentation for audits.
  • Coordinate with finance and accounting teams to reconcile payroll data and to ensure proper accounting of wages, benefits, and taxes.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Manage and process payroll changes, including salary adjustments, bonuses, deductions, and other compensatory components.
  • Update payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, job titles, and department/division transfers.
  • Ensure all payroll changes are processed accurately and in a timely manner, in accordance with company policies and regulations.

Additional duties and responsibilities

  • Complete required trainings by HCAM.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years of Human Resources experience.
  • Experience in handling confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Proven experience working with HRIS and payroll systems.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong computer literacy skills, specifically with MS Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint (365).
  • Organizational skills with the ability to meet a demanding workload.
  • Detail oriented to complete requirements of files and contract compliance.
  • Sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of population served.
  • Excellent oral and written interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Proven ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines.

Compensation

In compliance with Maryland's wage transparency requirements, the compensation for this role has been included in the posting.
