Workforce Development Specialist
The Office of Workforce Development Division: Employment Services Location: Lake Charles, LA The Workforce Development Specialist plays a key role in delivering comprehensive employment services to job seekers and employers. This position is responsible for providing job search assistance, job referrals, and placement support to job seekers, offering re-employment services to unemployment insurance claimants, and conducting recruitment services for employers with job openings. The Office of Workforce Development (OWD) is a key division of the Louisiana Workforce Commission, managing programs in workforce training, job placement, apprenticeships, and business engagement. Through collaboration with local boards, educational institutions, and industry partners, OWD aims to improve economic mobility for job seekers and ensure Louisiana employers have the skilled talent they need, contributing to the state's economic growth. Thinking Critically: The ability to objectively question, analyze, interpret, and evaluate information to form a conclusion. Minimum Qualifications: Three years of experience in workforce development, administrative services, or social services; OR Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR A bachelor's degree. EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field. Job Duties and Other Information: Job Duties: Conduct interviews with job seekers to assess their occupational interests, skills, knowledge, and abilities to determine suitable job qualifications for placement. Regularly deliver employment services to job seekers, which may include: Enrolling candidates in Wagner-Peyser programs Referring individuals to American Job Center-mandated and other One-Stop partner programs Providing labor market information Assisting with job search strategies and techniques Conducting Wagner-Peyser follow-up activities Reviewing job orders and supporting recruitment efforts Evaluate candidates' work experience, education, personal attributes, and other relevant factors to assign appropriate occupational classifications for placement. Identify job seekers' needs for additional services such as testing, counseling, or training, and facilitate or coordinate access to these resources. Deliver intensive support services and manage cases according to established agency policies. Collaborate with employers to develop job order requirements and analyze challenges related to filling difficult positions.
