An elementary school is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year to support students in grades K-5. This contract position focuses on providing tailored educational experiences for students with life skills needs and those with severe or multiple cognitive disabilities. Working collaboratively in a supportive environment, you will make a profound impact on the academic and personal growth of your students. Responsibilities: Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for a caseload of 12 students with diverse learning needs, including life skills and severe cognitive disabilities. Collaborate effectively with a team of 7 educational technicians (paraprofessionals) to deliver specialized instruction and support within the classroom. Monitor student progress, adjust teaching strategies as needed, and maintain detailed documentation to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that promotes student engagement, independence, and social development. Partner with families, administration, and other education professionals to enhance student outcomes. Qualifications: Valid Maine Special Education certification 282 or an out-of-state reciprocal equivalent. Experience working with elementary-aged children, particularly those with life skills and severe cognitive disabilities, is highly preferred. Strong classroom management skills and the ability to lead and coordinate support staff. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Commitment to continuous professional development and advocacy for students with special needs. Location: Belfast, ME
