A specialized opportunity is available for a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to work with an 11th-grade student with visual impairments. This contract position is based in San Francisco, CA, for the current school year (CSY), serving a high school student requiring focused, in-person orientation and mobility services.

Key Responsibilities: Provide 150 minutes per month of direct O&M instruction tailored to the students unique visual needs. Deliver make-up minutes for services not rendered since August, ensuring compliance with the students Individualized Education Program (IEP). Support the students development in accessing the Expanded Core Curriculum, including social interaction, independent living skills, and safe navigation. Implement and monitor progress on the following goals due November 2025:

Safely analyze intersections and cross streets with 90% accuracy. Use proper cane techniques on stairs with 90% accuracy. Utilize internet and applications to plan and execute routes in four new locations with monitored safety and 90% accuracy.

Qualifications and Desired Experience: Certification or licensure as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist. Proven experience working with students diagnosed with complex visual impairments such as Retinopathy of Prematurity, Nystagmus, High Myopic Astigmatism, and Optic Nerve Pallor. Ability to adapt instructional methods to accommodate eye fatigue and incorporate visual breaks and enlarged text. Familiarity with assistive technology, apps for route planning, and safety monitoring. Strong communication skills for collaborating with school staff, families, and related service providers.
