An opportunity is available for a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support an 11th-grade student at the high school level. This contract position is for the current school year and is located in Redwood City, CA. The role focuses on providing specialized in-person orientation and mobility services designed to meet the unique needs of a student with visual impairments.

Key Responsibilities: Provide 150 minutes per month of direct, in-person orientation and mobility instruction. Make up for services not provided since August, ensuring all required minutes are delivered. Implement tailored O&M goals, focusing on safe intersection analysis, proficient cane technique on stairs, and independent route planning using technology. Monitor and evaluate student progress with an emphasis on safety and skill acquisition. Collaborate with educational staff and caregivers to support the student's access to the Expanded Core Curriculum, including social interaction and independent living skills. Desired Qualifications and Experience: Certification or significant experience as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist. Proven ability to work with students with visual impairments characterized by complex conditions such as Retinopathy of Prematurity, Nystagmus, High Myopic Astigmatism, and Optic Nerve Pallor. Experience designing and implementing individualized sensory and mobility accommodation strategies. Strong skills in teaching technology-based navigation methods. Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams. This position requires a professional who can help the student achieve measurable outcomes by November 2025, aligned with the students unique needs and educational goals.
