An Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) is needed to support K-12 students in Springfield, MA for the upcoming school year on a contract basis. This role focuses on guiding students with visual impairments to develop independent travel and mobility skills within their educational environment and community.

Key Qualifications: Certification or licensure as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist Experience working with K-12 students who have visual impairments Strong knowledge of travel techniques, assistive technology, and mobility aids Ability to assess individual student needs and develop personalized mobility plans Excellent communication skills for collaborating with educators, families, and other specialists Location: Springfield, Massachusetts (K-12 educational setting) Responsibilities: Conduct assessments to identify student orientation and mobility needs Develop and implement individualized instruction plans for safe and efficient travel Teach students techniques for indoor and outdoor navigation, including public transit use Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to integrate mobility strategies Monitor student progress and adjust plans accordingly Ensure compliance with relevant laws and educational standards concerning students with disabilities Benefits and Perks: Opportunity to make a direct impact on student independence and quality of life Professional development in specialized educational services Experience within a diverse and supportive educational community This is a contract position for the full school year.
