We are actively seeking a skilled and certified
Sign Language Interpreter
to provide
remote interpreting services
for K-12 students in a
Kentucky
school district. This fully remote position plays a critical role in supporting deaf and hard-of-hearing students by ensuring accessible communication in academic and social settings via virtual platforms. Responsibilities:
Deliver real-time American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for virtual classes, meetings, and school-related activities.
Facilitate clear and accurate communication between students, teachers, school staff, and peers.
Prepare for lessons and assignments to ensure accurate interpretation of educational content.
Collaborate with general and special education staff to support student learning and IEP goals.
Maintain professional conduct, confidentiality, and adherence to FERPA and district policies.
Follow interpreting ethics and standards as outlined by RID, EIPA, and Kentucky Department of Education guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
Kentucky Interpreter License through the Kentucky Board of Interpreters
High school diploma or GED (Associates or Bachelors in interpreting or related field preferred).
Experience interpreting in K-12 educational environments.
Strong understanding of educational terminology and IEP processes.
Reliable high-speed internet and ability to work from a quiet, private home environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience with remote/virtual interpreting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams).
Knowledge of Kentuckys educational system and student support services.
Ability to adapt interpretation to suit the age, grade level, and needs of individual students.
Work Environment & Schedule:
100% remote must provide own equipment (computer with webcam, headset, etc.).
Schedule follows the school calendar, with hours based on student needs..
