Seeking an experienced Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support K-12 students in a school setting. This contract position is based in Rutherfordton, NC, covering the complete school year (CSY). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in providing specialized mobility training and orientation skills to visually impaired students, helping them navigate their environments safely and independently.

Key Responsibilities: Conduct comprehensive orientation and mobility assessments for students with visual impairments. Develop and implement individualized training plans to improve students independent travel skills. Collaborate with teachers, parents, and support staff to integrate mobility goals into educational plans. Monitor and document student progress, adjusting strategies as needed. Provide training and support for staff and families to reinforce learned skills. Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations related to mobility services. Qualifications: Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS credential preferred). Experience working with K-12 students who have visual impairments. Knowledge of current best practices and assistive technology in orientation and mobility. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Valid drivers license and willingness to travel between school sites as required.
