Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Overview: We are currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) to provide specialized instruction and support services to students using cued spoken language (Cued Speech). This position ensures full access to the curriculum and all aspects of school life for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Key Responsibilities: Use and/or learn Cued Speech (all required Cue Speech training will be provided by employer). Provide individualized and group instruction to students who are DHH, guided by each student's IEP. Conduct initial and ongoing assessments to determine appropriate supports and services. Support classroom teachers by identifying instructional needs specific to DHH students. Participate as an active member of a transdisciplinary team to develop and implement IEP goals. Train staff and students in hearing loss awareness and assistive technology use. Make environmental modifications to support access for DHH students. Ensure appropriate use of amplification equipment and assistive devices. Provide consultation and professional development to school staff as needed. Required Knowledge & Skills: Willingness to learn and use Cued Speech (training provided). Knowledge of auditory training, speech reading, and instruction in oral/written language. Understanding of behavior analysis and positive behavior supports. Familiarity with laws and best practices in special education. Experience with amplification systems (FM, cochlear implants, hearing aids, etc.). Ability to work with students with behavioral challenges. Strong collaboration and communication skills. Qualifications: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) Endorsement for Teacher of Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing LBS1 endorsement (Learning Behavior Specialist) Prior teaching experience with students with exceptionalities preferred CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within 6–12 months of hire) Must pass a fingerprint background check and pre-employment physical TB test required upon employment Work Environment: May involve walking outdoors on uneven surfaces Potential exposure to student illness or bodily fluids May occasionally require physical maneuvering or awkward postures Use of cleaning or classroom supplies To Apply: Please send your resume and a copy of your license(s) to:
