Human Resources (HR) Generalist
Location: Chicago, IL
Job Type: Full-Time, In-Person
Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000 per year

About the Role: The Backbone of Our HR Operations
Reporting to the Director of HR, the HR Generalist is a central, hands-on role and the go-to person for our team's day-to-day HR needs. You will be responsible for managing the core functions that keep our organization running smoothly, from ensuring our team members are paid accurately to guiding them through their benefits and championing a safe workplace. This role is perfect for a proactive, detail-oriented HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about supporting a diverse, frontline workforce.

- Drive a Seamless Employee Journey: Manage our full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and retention processes to ensure we attract and keep the best talent in the industry.
- Ensure Our Team is Supported: Serve as the primary point of contact for all benefits, 401(k), and payroll administration, ensuring our employees are cared for accurately and efficiently.
- Champion a Safe and Compliant Workplace: Own our worker's compensation program from start to finish, manage claims, and partner with leadership to ensure compliance and promote a culture of safety.
Key Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition and Employee Lifecycle
- Manage the full-cycle recruitment process in collaboration with hiring managers to ensure a smooth and positive candidate experience.
- Administer new hire onboarding and orientation programs.
- Represent Our Client at career events and job fairs to build our employer brand.
- Conduct exit interviews and analyze feedback to provide insights for improving employee retention.
Benefits, Payroll, and 401(k) Administration
- Process payroll, manage benefits distribution, and handle employee deductions with accuracy and timeliness.
- Serve as the primary contact for all employee benefits-related inquiries.
- Partner with benefits providers and brokers to manage renewals, compliance, and monthly billings.
- Lead the annual benefits open enrollment process, from communication to execution.
- Administer the company 401(k) plan, including enrollments, contribution changes, and compliance.
Worker’s Compensation and Safety
- Act as the primary contact for all worker’s compensation claims, coordinating communication between the employee, insurance carrier, and medical providers.
- File, track, and maintain detailed records for all claims in accordance with state and federal regulations, including OSHA reporting.
- Collaborate with managers on incident investigations and support employees through the return-to-work process.
HR Operations and Policy
- In partnership with the HR Director, research, develop, and communicate HR policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 3–5+ years of hands-on HR Generalist experience.
- Strong experience in benefits administration, payroll, and worker's compensation management is essential.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state labor laws.
- Proficiency in HRIS and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting a large, hourly, or non-exempt workforce in an industry like facilities services, manufacturing, or hospitality.
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification.
- Experience working directly with insurance brokers and providers.
