Were looking for a Lead Backend Engineer to guide a small team while remaining hands-on with design and development. Youll be the technical driver behind backend services and integrations that power our AI platform, helping automate workflows across complex accounting and tax domains. Youll work on projects like enterprise billing integrations, backend systems for AI orchestration, and real-time AI interaction APIs. This is a chance to help define how AI is applied at scale, while also shaping technical direction and mentoring engineers. What Youll Do
Lead and mentor a team of ~5 backend engineers, balancing delegation with hands-on contribution. Design, develop, and maintain backend services using
Python, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL
(with pgvector). Build
AI orchestration systems
integrating LLMs from OpenAI, Anthropic, and other providers. Develop APIs and backend logic for
real-time AI-driven workflows . Own enterprise system integrations, including
billing and tax processes . Drive projects from design through production, ensuring scalable, reliable solutions. What Were Looking For
5+ years of backend engineering experience
(7 years is ideal). Strong experience with
Python, FastAPI, AWS, PostgreSQL/pgvector . Experience as a
tech lead or manager , overseeing 35 engineers and delegating workstreams. Ability to connect engineering work to
real business problems . Evidence of career progression and ownership of end-to-end features. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Preference for candidates with backgrounds in
strong engineering teams
or from top universities. Less emphasis on short-term consulting/project-based work. Seniority level
