Fiber Optic Technician

TEKsystems Description The technicians will be working with other full-time team members in commercial or outside plant environments. Depending on experience, responsibilities include: Troubleshooting and installing low voltage and structured cabling work. Day-to-Day Responsibilities Reporting to the office around 6:30 AM - 7:00 AM, participating in team meetings to discuss project scope and objectives. Then, heading to sites in company vehicles with team members. Currently, technicians may work 5-10 hours of overtime. Skills and Experience Prep and splice fiber optic cables, locate problem areas, and perform repairs. Proficient with fiber connector prep, installation, and testing equipment. Fabricate, assemble, and install cable pathways including trays, trenches, and manholes. Install, splice, terminate, and test fiber optic and copper cable systems, including fusion splicing and installing connectors. Install cables in aerial, underground, and inside environments. Perform ring/hot cuts, install fiber closures, terminations, connectors, patch panels. Bond and ground cables per client specs. Understand and operate OTDR, read traces, and evaluate test results. Utilize Corning fusion splicers: M-90, X-77, I-LID, and Opti-Splice LID. *Two weeks of travel per quarter* Additional Skills & Qualifications Ability to follow instructions, take feedback, and work long hours. Willingness to learn and grow within the company.
