Job Description Working under the direction of the Recorder and Deputy Recorder to assist the public in recording and maintaining a variety of land records, issuing vital records, hunting and fishing licenses, and registering, titling, and transferring off-highway vehicles and vessels. Applicant will be working in a team-centered dynamic in an office setting. Must have the ability to perform complex clerical tasks, navigate various computer programs and basic office equipment. Applicant must have the ability to complete data entry under strict guidelines. Applicant is expected to provide excellent customer service in person, over the phone, and via email or written correspondence. Duties and Responsibilities General: Establish positive public relations amongst the public and fellow county employees through communication and providing assistance of the highest quality. Examine, process, and store a variety of legal documents including land records, vital records, and various licenses and registrations
Visually examines documents for authenticity and reviews for required information. Enters information and scans documents into the appropriate computer program. Maintains confidentiality as required. Receives various legal documents from abstractors, attorneys, realtors, bankers, businesses, and the general public for recording.
Assist the public in person, over the phone, via email and written correspondence relating to various requests including:
land record documents including copy requests and recording standards. vital records (birth, death, and marriage) including family history and general questions. off-highway vehicles and vessels including regulations and general questions. hunting and fishing licenses including regulations and general questions. ability to calculate and collect fees.
Answering and directing incoming calls, taking detailed notes and delivering messages, greeting individuals coming into the office, processing incoming mail. Recognizing when individuals should be referred to the Recorder or Deputy Recorder. Will develop knowledge of various functions in the Recorder's Office.
Work Requirements:
All work is performed inside an office setting and involves sitting and standing - both can be for long periods of time, bending, reaching, lifting moderately heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), and occasionally climbing ladders to retrieve moderately heavy books. Constant interruptions will occur resulting in the necessity to multi-task. Must be able to read cursive as our records date back to the 1800s.
Applicant shall have a knowledge of basic mathematics, cashiering, English grammar, vocabulary, and spelling for written and verbal communications. Must also be bondable and capable of becoming a Notary Public. Additional Information
Hire rate is $18.41/hour. Moves to $19.92/hour after six months of employment. Subsequent step increases each year up to 7 years.
