Job Summary

The College and School of Liberal Arts and Sciences ( LAS ) Student Success Center is committed to nurturing our student community while advocating for academic success among all students through advising. Our office is hiring for a student Office Assistant. The Office Assistant greets and assists visitors in person or over the telephone and provides general office support to the department.

Responsibilities

Serves as front desk and face of the department. Represents the department in a professional and welcoming manner, greets visitors, and fields requests.

Available to work a minimum of 12 in-person hours per week. Maximum 20 hours per week.

Essential personal attributes for this role include: initiative, maturity, approachability, dependability, flexibility, friendliness, ability to work well with others and strong communication skills.

Ability to keep confidential information.

Maintain the office space including student lounge.

Assists advisors and staff with copy and scanning needs. Help maintain the copier.

Helps keep calendars and schedules for the advisors within the Hub. Help students schedule appointments with hub advisors.

Submits maintenance requests and work orders related to university facilities.

Report any issues within the department spaces.

Answer or forward any questions related to students advising to the appropriate entities.

Work closely with advisors to assist in their assignments. Direct students to appropriate resources.

Will occasionally work with incoming high school students as a current student mentor.

Be willing to expand this role and take on new responsibilities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

This job posting is only available to university of Utah students who have been awarded Federal Work-Study. Beginning July 1st, the employee will need to be eligible and have been awarded work study for Fall 2025.

High School diploma or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. One-year full-time customer service experience or equivalency, demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.

Student is a current University of Utah student and has completed a year’s worth of study at the University of Utah.
