Job Purpose As a Records Technician in the Records Division for the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, you will play a key role in supporting law enforcement, the courts, and the public by ensuring that critical records - from criminal histories to incident reports - are handled with the highest accuracy, confidentiality, and timeliness. Your efforts will help maintain public trust, aid investigations, and support legal proceedings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Receives, processes, researches, and responds to requests for internal documents from the general public, governmental agencies, and businesses. Reviews requests to determine appropriateness of release. Calculates, collects, and receives fees associated with requested documents. Reviews, scans, and attaches documents to existing files accurately within the department's Records Management System/Jail Management System (RMS/JMS). Analyzes and compares name records for acceptance into the department's Records Management System. Reviews, enters, updates, and clears data pertaining to persons and properties in the National Crime Information Center database. Performs quality checks and validations on articles, persons, weapons, vehicles, boats, orders of protection, and restraining orders. Performs audits, verifications, validations, and corrections in the Sex Offender Registry files, in the Offender Watch, and National Crime Information Center databases to ensure quality control and compliance with national and state standards. Receives, reviews, and processes criminal history record requests from the Department of Social Services/Child Protective Services, as mandated by state law. Receives, reviews, researches, and processes court orders requiring the deletion or expungement of criminal records from the Records Management System/Jail Management System, as well as the previous records system. Performs general administrative duties as required, including typing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, and establishing and maintaining filing systems. Performs other similar duties as required. Job Specifications and Qualifications Education/Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent, with at least one year of professional clerical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Licensing and Certifications:
National Crime Information Center certification (already hold or ability to achieve within 6 months of hire date). Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work. Positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, fingering, standing, walking, repetitive motions, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, climbing and balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting.

There are multiple coverage plans available for the employee to choose from, depending on his/her personal coverage needs. Basic coverage is provided at a minimal cost to the employee. The County of Lexington provides a Wellness Center for its employees and their dependents who are covered under county health insurance. The staff of the Health and Wellness Center is licensed to diagnose, treat and prescribe for a wide variety of common illness and injuries at no cost to the employee and their covered dependents, when participating in the Gold or Silver Health Insurance Plan. There is a small co-pay if employees choose the Bronze Health Insurance Plan. Basic coverage is provided at no cost to the employee, with a benefit amount at 1.5 times the employee's basic annual earnings, up to $50,000.
Additional coverage on the employee or his or her dependents is available and can be paid for through payroll deduction. Retirement All full time employees of the county participate in the South Carolina Retirement System or the South Carolina Police Officer's Retirement System. Deferred Compensation Employees are eligible to participate in the South Carolina Public Employees Deferred Compensation Plan, 401K or 457. The amount deposited is determined by the employee and participation is optional. This is a tax-deferred savings program and is handled automatically by payroll deduction.
Overtime Employees who are eligible for overtime are paid overtime at the rate of 1.5 times his or her regular rate of pay for time worked. Overtime will be calculated at any hours worked over 40 hours in one week for non-exempt personnel. Holiday Pay The County of Lexington observes 13 holidays. When a holiday falls on a normally scheduled workday, the employee will earn holiday pay.
Annual Leave and Sick Leave Annual leave is accrued at the rate of 10 days per year for employees with less than five years of service with the county; 15 days for 5-10 years of service; and 20 days for 10 or more years of service. Sick leave is accrued at 12 days per year. Education Incentive Pay Employees receive educational incentive pay for completing degrees in pre-approved courses of study at approved accredited institutions.
