Job Title: Human Resources Generalist

Reports to: Director of Finance

Overview

We are seeking a highly organized and professional Human Resource Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will serve as a primary point of contact for employees and external partners, providing exceptional support while ensuring HR processes run efficiently. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage a variety of HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, and employee relations. Proficiency with HR systems and office management tools is essential.

This position is approximately 80% HR operations and 20% recruiting, requiring a balance of compliance-focused responsibilities and proactive talent acquisition. The Human Resources Generalist will also contribute to employee engagement, performance management, and training initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for employee inquiries and HR-related matters.
  • Assist with full-cycle recruitment, including posting job ads, screening candidates, scheduling interviews, and coordinating offers.
  • Oversee new hire onboarding, orientation, and training processes.
  • Maintain accurate employee records, files, and HRIS data.
  • Support benefits administration, payroll processing, and leave management.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company HR policies and procedures.
  • Assist with performance management, employee relations, and conflict resolution.
  • Prepare HR reports, track key metrics, and support audits as needed.
  • Collaborate with management to implement HR initiatives that support company goals.

HR Operations

  • Lead HR policies and procedures, including employee handbook updates, benefits administration, and background checks.
  • Oversee payroll processing (Paylocity), attendance tracking, W-2 distribution, and FMLA compliance.
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims and reporting.
  • Lead the talent acquisition process, including sourcing, interviewing, and hiring.
  • Partner with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and ensure smooth onboarding.

Employee Relations

  • Conduct performance improvement plans and communicate with employees regarding key performance issues.
  • Participate in quarterly conversations and yearly reviews.
  • Provide coaching and support to managers for employee development and retention strategies.

Training and Development

  • Foster a positive work environment by organizing team-building activities and employee recognition programs.
  • Support ongoing training and employee development programs.
  • Ensure employees are educated on benefits packages, incentive programs, and compliance-related certifications.

Leadership and Growth

  • Contribute to leadership, management, and accountability (LMA) initiatives.
  • Collaborate with management on HR initiatives that align with company goals.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience in human resources or a related role.
  • Strong knowledge of HR laws, regulations, and best practices. (FLMA, Workers’ Compensation, Attendance policies).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem/conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficiency with HRIS and ATS software (Paylocity preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Hands-on experience with recruiting, onboarding, and offboarding processes.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • SHRM Certification is preferred but not required.
