The City of Cedarburg is seeking a mechanically minded, energetic individual to join our Department of Public Works team as a Mechanic. This position plays a vital role in maintaining and repairing a diverse and expanding municipal fleet, which includes police, fire, sewer, utility, and public works vehicles. The role also supports facilities maintenance and snow plow operations during winter months. This is an opportunity to contribute to a high-performing team that values safety, reliability, and community service. The starting wage range is $28.13 to $34.61 depending on qualifications and experience.
* Perform routine and complex maintenance and repairs on a wide range of municipal vehicles and equipment
• Troubleshoot and repair small engines (e.g., chainsaws, wheel loaders, excavators)
• Assist with snow plow operations, including salter and liquid application calibration
• Conduct basic building maintenance and facility repairs
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic and electrical systems (AC/DC)
• Perform welding, fabricating, and tire repairs (small to large sizes)
• Source and order parts from multiple vendors
• Assist in specifying and procuring new and used equipment
• Respond to emergency repair needs and after-hours DPW operations
• Maintain a safety-first approach in all tasks and environments
* The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications and attributes:
• Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of a Class B CDL (Class A preferred)
• Basic knowledge of Class 2 to Class 8 vehicle systems and willingness to learn specialized municipal equipment
• Familiarity with diesel emissions systems or willingness to learn
• Competency in computer usage for diagnostics and recordkeeping
• Experience or willingness to learn salter and liquid application systems
• Basic understanding of welding, fabricating, and tire repair
• Ability to diagnose and repair hydraulic and electrical systems
• Knowledge of building maintenance practices or willingness to learn
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
• Commitment to safety and public service
• Availability for emergency response and after-hours operations
