What Youll Do Facilitate one-on-one and group interventions that promote self-worth, personal safety, boundary setting, and growth Support clients in developing recovery plans, Psychiatric Advance Directives (PADs), and Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAPs) Enhance clients coping, communication, and self-management skills Assist clients in system navigation, including advocacy, appointments, and benefit access Provide crisis and post-crisis support Assist with skill development in daily living, socialization, and symptom management Educate clients on available community resources and support re-entry following hospitalization Help clients manage appointments with mental health professionals Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams and participate in person-centered planning Respond as a first responder for crises on a 24/7/365 basis Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with agency and Medicaid standards
Who You Are Lived experience with a mental health or substance use disorder
NC Peer Support Specialist Certification
High school diploma or GED
Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with clients and members of the treatment team Stable recovery and self-identification as a person in recovery Valid NC drivers license Observational skills to interpret demeanor and spot signs of distress or crisis Ability to work flexible hours and in varied settings Compassion, resilience, and the ability to build trust with diverse populations Comfort working independently while staying connected to a supportive team Not a family member of the individual receiving services

Work Environment & Schedule This role involves travel within the community and requires a flexible schedule based on client needs. Peer Support staff may work individually or with small groups (not exceeding 1:9 ratio), under a supervision ratio of 1:6 (QP to Peer Support FTEs). Services are billed in 15-minute increments.
