Overview

A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) provides safe, patient-centered anesthesia care in collaboration with surgical teams for various medical procedures. This role requires advanced clinical skills, flexibility to work variable schedules including nights and weekends, and a strong commitment to patient safety and professionalism. Overview: A call CRNA is part of a core team of dedicated CRNAs who provide timely anesthetic and emergency care for patients in a 24/7 model. This position is full-time and distinguished from non-call CRNAs who have a regular, patterned schedule. A call CRNA position entails a flexible, non-patterned schedule with in-house call responsibilities including off-shifts, weekends, and holidays. A call CRNA possesses excellent clinical skills, a commitment to patient safety, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. A call CRNA is eligible for the call compensation program in recognition of the position and commitment to the core team.

Schedule Requirements: Availability to work off-shifts, weekends, and holidays as part of the restricted in-house call rotation in partnership with other members of the core call team. Willingness to respond to emergency calls and provide anesthesia services within the hospital setting. 90 days notice is requested when transitioning or resigning from the call team.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Care
    • Implement accurate, safe, patient-centric anesthetic care.
  • Professional Skill
    • Understand physiologic implications and anesthetic considerations of surgical procedures; constantly monitor vital signs, capnography, and pulse oximetry during anesthesia according to ASA guidelines.
  • Information Management
    • Ensure appropriate documentation within hospital and regulatory requirements and protect information from unauthorized access, modification, destruction, or disclosure.
  • Quality Management
    • Demonstrate high standards of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care.
  • Professional Development
    • Continuously engage in projects that maintain and advance professional competency.

Qualifications

Education
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist; completion of a certified nurse anesthetist training program; graduate of a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the AANA Council on Accreditation. Current State of Connecticut Nursing License; Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in the State of Connecticut.

Experience
Prefer clinical working experience as a CRNA within the given specialty/service line, but none required. APRNs, PAs, CRNAs and CNMs are required to be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS hospital and credentialed through the Medical Staff process. Evidence of current competence to practice as an APRN/PA/CRNA/CNM via appropriate reference letters must be obtainable during the Medical Staff appointment process.

Licensure
CRNA, AANA Certification, State of CT RN and APRN License, ACLS, DEA Registration and State of CT Controlled Substance Registration.

Special Skills
CRNAs must have sharp concentration, calmness under stress, clear communication with surgeons, the surgical support team, patients and families. A calm, reassuring manner helps build trust. Anesthetic patient management must be immediate and responsive. Flexibility and adaptability are required.

Physical Demands
CRNAs must have the ability to observe and interpret monitoring alarms; functional vision and hearing; speak, read, and write; stand for long periods; lift up to 25 pounds; and move patients between anesthesia locations as needed. Strong motor function and coordination are required, along with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing clinical problems.
