This role is an Expense Accountant in the Finance team, reporting to the Expense Manager. The position entails complex accounting functions including accruals, intercompany transactions, expense reporting, and financial analysis. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting skills, excellent organizational abilities, and the confidence to interact with senior leadership.

Base pay range

$95,000.00/yr - $115,000.00/yr

Location: New York, NY | Hybrid (3 days in-office)

Base salary plus bonus potential; actual compensation will be determined based on skills and experience.

The Opportunity

Our client is seeking a highly detail-oriented and proactive Expense Accountant to join its Finance team. This role will be responsible for complex accounting functions including accruals, intercompany transactions, expense reporting, and financial analysis. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting skills, excellent organizational abilities, and the confidence to interact with senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze recurring and ad hoc expense reports for senior management
  • Perform reconciliations of prepaids, fixed assets, deferred rent, and other liability accounts
  • Manage monthly accruals, prepare journal entries, and maintain supporting schedules
  • Analyze non-compensation P&L expense trends and variances
  • Maintain and amortize the firm’s operating lease schedule
  • Support the daily treasury function: prepare deposits, cash reconciliations, and cash flow projections
  • Assist in post-retirement and VEBA reconciliations
  • Partner with leadership and internal teams on process improvements and special projects
  • Support audit preparation and respond to internal/external audit requests

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
  • 3+ years of relevant accounting experience
  • Strong accounting foundation with experience in accruals and reconciliations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables and lookups)
  • Familiarity with Epicor (or similar GL systems) is a plus
  • Highly organized, self-starter, and able to manage multiple priorities independently
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interface with stakeholders at all levels
