Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Dental Assistant for the Dental Department of the Eric B. Chandler Health Center at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The primary purpose of the Dental Assistant position is to assist the Dentist and Dental Hygienist during examination and treatment of patients. Performs both chairside and desk-side duties. Performs administrative work, sterilization and miscellaneous tasks.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Seats patients, adjusts chairs, drapes patient with protective covers.
- Lays out dental instruments and supplies.
- Daily stocks dental operatory units with supplies.
- Assists and guides Dentists and Dental Students with patient management.
- Provides back-up coverage for clinical staff, as needed.
- Monitors infection control.
- Daily cleans and maintains dental x-ray developers and barrier protection on x-ray units.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
- Graduating from an accredited Dental Assisting Program.
Certifications/Licenses
- Certification as a Dental Assistant in the State of New Jersey is required.
- Valid Dental Radiologic Technology License issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
- Basic Life Support Certification
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience or ability to perform chairside and office-based dental assisting duties as described.
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a dental office preferred.
Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Physical Demands: up to 2/3 of time standing, walking, sitting; lifting up to 10 lbs up to 2/3 of the time and up to 25 lbs up to 1/3 of the time; various vision requirements.
- Work Environment: exposure to moving parts, fumes or airborne particles, and potential radiation; moderate noise typical for a Dental Assistant.
