Senior QA Inspector

The Senior QA Inspector is responsible for performing inspections and/or audits of purchased parts, materials, equipment, and quality control programs. Interprets manufacturing drawings, diagrams, specifications, and lists to approve or reject units or systems for in-process or final assemblies. Performs sampling and testing of incoming components and raw materials. Ensures raw materials, in-process, and finished products meet company standards. Determines or assists in determining methods and procedures necessary for inspection. Duties/Responsibilities
Performs inspections on a variety of materials, components, assemblies, and systems. Uses and interprets engineering drawings, sketches, and work to inspection procedures. Generates and/or revises inspection procedures and associated flows. Performs source inspections at off-site facilities. Identifies problem areas and bottlenecks and assists in resolution. Documents work results and generates inspection reports. Generates procedures to ensure work is performed in a consistent manner. Complies with safety and security rules and observes good housekeeping practices. Assists and trains lower grade personnel toward achievement of inspection tasks. Includes training of new hires to department and lab policies. Accomplishes assignments independent of supervision. Prepares and maintains documented inspection/test procedures and work flows necessary to perform daily work. Performs audits and witnesses tests. Designs or modifies fixtures and tooling to facilitate inspection operations. Takes initiative to identify problem areas, determine root cause, develop potential solutions, and coordinate resolution with engineering personnel and/or line management. Provides input for inspection methods and associated improvements related to the job. Assists Quality and Engineering in investigations of process related quality issues. Skills/Abilities
Must be able to follow and execute to verbal and written instructions. Must have good time management, planning/organization, and decision-making skills. Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft applications such as Word and Excel. Demonstrates an understanding of Quality System requirements, which includes the Draper Integrated Quality Management System (IQMS) and ISO 9001. Able to interface with customers and auditors. Able to provide guidance, mentoring, and training to lower grade personnel. Must be able to work individually and with others within and outside his/her function. Typical Equipment Used Includes:
For Mechanical Inspection: Microscopes, micrometers, gauge blocks, pin gauges, comparators, surface plates, height gauges, rotary tables, coordinate measuring machines, and roundness and surface analysis equipment. For Electrical Inspection: Oscilloscopes, Capacitance/Impedance bridges, power supplies, and microscopes Education / Experience
Requires 2 Year Technical Degree + 10 Years experience, OR 4 Year Degree + 10 Years experience, OR Relevant Technical Certificate(s) + 10 Years experience, OR 15+ Years experience. Applicants selected for this position will be required to obtain and maintain a government security clearance. Position is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
